The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to undergo a change in leadership as Mohsin Naqvi is expected to take over as chairman in the upcoming elections. This transition comes after the resignation of Zaka Ashraf, who stepped down from his position as the chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) a fortnight before the end of his latest three-month extension.

Originally appointed in July of last year, the IMC’s primary objective was to finalize the Board of Governors (BoG) and conduct elections for the chairman within four months. However, due to the inability to meet this deadline, the committee was granted an additional three months by the patron of the PCB, caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar.

Mohsin Naqvi, currently serving as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, has been nominated to fill the vacant position on the board of governors. If elected, Naqvi is expected to continue in his government role until the general elections in Pakistan on February 8.

In the interim, the responsibility of the chairman’s position will be assumed by PCB election commissioner Shah Khawar, who will conduct a meeting to clarify the schedule for the upcoming PCB elections. The elected chairman will serve a three-year term.

Although Naqvi lacks prior experience in cricket administration, his potential election as chairman would mark the end of a year-long period without a formally elected PCB chairman. This change in leadership brings anticipation for the future direction and development of cricket in Pakistan.
